Romans 8 Sermon Series this August

About one year ago, our church family identified twelve favorite passages of scripture – which we have called our “treasured texts” – that we felt led to focus upon in Bible study and in the worship service. These “treasured texts” included such passages as Psalm 23, John 3:16, Romans 12, I Cor.13, and Micah 6:6-8. Since last October, one of our “treasured texts” has been the focus of our Sunday School lessons and morning worship services during the first Sunday of each month.

Our “treasured text” for this coming Sunday (the first Sunday in August) will be the 8th chapter of Romans. This pivotal chapter in Romans will be studied in each of our Sunday School classes this Sunday. Then to give our “treasured text” emphasis a slight twist, I will begin a sermon series on Romans 8 entitled “Life in the Spirit.” The sermons in this upcoming series are projected to be as follows:

August 3         Life in the Spirit: No More Condemnation                    Romans 8:1-11

August 17        Life in the Spirit: No More Exclusion                             Romans 8:12-17

August 24       Life in the Spirit: No More Wasted Circumstances      Romans 8:18-30

August 31        Life in the Spirit: No More Separation                          Romans 8:31-39

Dr. Terry Freeman, a devoted member of our church family and former pastor of Lexington’s Grace Baptist Church, will bring additional focus on our emphasis on the Book of Romans when he preaches at Calvary on August 10. Terry will preach on the subject “God’s Wonderful Gift” and base his message on Romans 10:5-13.

Let me encourage you to read each of the above passages from Romans in preparation for worship during the month of August. I look forward to seeing you this Sunday as we examine our “treasured text” of Romans 8.
