Mother's Day Out

We are pleased that you are interested in the Mother’s Day Out Program at Calvary Baptist Church. Please call or email us for more information.

Ministry Objectives

We want to provide an environment and experience that will allow your child to:

  • Make a successful transition from home
  • Learn to be with other children and develop social skills
  • Develop an interest and joy in learning
  • Develop self-control
  • Develop a feeling of success
  • Develop self-expression
  • Develop creativity
  • Develop a secure feeling through trusting relationships

Children age three months through pre-kindergarten may be enrolled for the school-year program and/or for the summer program. Children will be placed in rooms according to the child's birth date. We are always enrolling students in classrooms where space is available. If we do not currently have space available for your child you can ask to be placed on our waiting list and we will contact you if a space opens up.  It is advised that parents call early if they would like to enroll for upcoming sessions in order to get on the waiting list as soon as possible.

We take pride in our ability to maintain very low teacher/student ratios in our classrooms: Babies 2:5, Crawlers/Walkers 2:6, Ones 2:8, Twos 2:10, Preschool 2:14.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Our year-long session starts at the end of August and runs until the end of May. Our summer session runs from mid-June until the end of July.  Children must be enrolled for both Tuesdays and Thursdays. We follow Fayette County Public Schools school calendar. If Fayette County is out of school we will be also. We also follow their plan for inclement weather. If they should close or dismiss early, MDO will also.

All classrooms follow similar schedules. Children will have a snack in the early morning, have craft time (for classrooms where it is age-appropriate), playtime, lunch, and rest. All classrooms will go down for rest time with lights out and quiet music. Staff will not keep a child awake due to a special request. Feel free to pick up your child early if you do not wish for them to nap.

Policies and Daily Procedures

Upon enrollment each family will receive a parent handbook with complete details about our policies and procedures. Included is information about what to bring, health and safety, nutrition, and more.  If you would like a copy of this to review, please click: Preschool or MDO.

Curriculum is the framework on which teachers can build an early childhood program that allows children to grow and develop as Jesus did—"in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man" (Luke 2:52). A child's growth and development is viewed as a process, not an event.

A child's growth and development is viewed as a process, not an event.

Development begins when the child is conceived and continues throughout life. Spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, and social development are equally important. (LifeWay Resources, 2007)
Our Mother’s Day Out program follows the WEE curriculum.  This curriculum is published by LifeWay Christian Resources. We have curriculum designed for all the ages we teach.  It is activity based, provides choices, allows for physical activity, and is biblically based. Throughout the school year we will have many different themes students will be learning about. Classrooms will base activities on the age and developmental levels of the children. Classrooms will post the monthly calendar outside the door so you can see what your child will be involved in during the month.

Our themes for the upcoming school year include: Friends, Senses, Kentucky, Shapes and Colors, Fall Harvest, Giving Thanks, Christmas, Winter, Nursery Rhymes, Feelings, Being Healthy, Weather, Plants, Spring, Easter, Community Helpers.

We also offer a music class to all children once per week. Each classroom has Musikgarten materials to use as well as other age appropriate instruments and music. Teachers guide students through different music activities and engage in song and dance.

The church has a library located in the preschool area. Mother’s Day Out children are welcome to borrow books from the library. You may come in anytime, but we ask that you follow the church guidelines for checkout and return.

Spanish Classes

Children in our older twos and preschool classrooms have the opportunity to participate in weekly Spanish classes. These classes are taught by a Spanish teacher who has a Master’s degree in Spanish Literature and Linguistics, a PhD in Educational Policy with a focus on Second Language Acquisition, and experience in the Spanish culture abroad. She uses a Total Physical Response method, which involves song, play, and storytelling. Feel free to check out her blog at
