Advent at Calvary 2020

Each day of Advent beginning on Sunday, November 29, you will find Advent Devotions written by Calvary Staff on the church’s web page and delivered to your email inbox.  These devotions are offered to help you enter the themes of Advent (Hope, Peace, Joy and Love) on a daily basis.

“The Glory of Christmas” is a virtual Sunday School experience including video vignettes and a discussion guide for use in Zoom Sunday School Classes and other Bible Studies.  This church-wide study will help tie us to one another.  The videos are light-hearted but poignant.  The Study guide was written by our own Hank Ellington.

Throughout the season, we will distribute and make available a variety of Advent resources for use by families with children, older adults, and those who are sheltering-in-place.  We also have simple advent wreaths including candles available for purchase for $10. Please contact Carrie Beth ASAP if you are interested in purchasing an advent wreath set.

Advent Boxes for Families with Children
2020 is a year for thinking “outside the box” to do ministry. This year we are giving our Calvary families a fun Advent gift box! Advent boxes will include Advent devotional pieces for families. It will also include a fun item for kids to create or have fun with for each of the four weeks of Advent. An additional item we are excited about is a great resource for families titled, Faithful Families for Advent and Christmas by Traci Smith that has 100 ideas to make the season sacred.

Advent boxes will be distributed beginning Sunday November 22.

Advent Sacks for Homebound Seniors
Our homebound seniors have contributed so very much to making Calvary the church it is today and continue to be special part of our church. We miss their presence and want to make the Advent season special for them in their homes/facilities. Calvary visitors that have access to seniors will be dropping off an Advent sack which will include season items such as a devotional, an Advent calendar, an ornament and a treat. They will also bring a communion wafer/juice set and candle for those who would like to have them to participate in the Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Service virtually from their home. Deliveries will be made from November 22 -29 and seniors contacted before they come. Those in facilities that we cannot visit will be contacted with a card or call. We hope to bring some Christmas cheer and Calvary love to this special group of people.

If you are interested in Advent materials for use at home, please contact Carrie Beth Tonks.
