Monday Missional Musings
Last week while enjoying a nice lunch with a friend, I wanted to show him a picture of a project I completed in the backyard. I never found the picture of the completed project, but as I thumbed through the all pictures on my phone I was quickly amazed at all the pictures of missional activities Calvary has been involved with over the past few years. I looked up at my friend, smiled, and said how blessed I have been. The places, relationships, and the ministry has been incredible. Later that afternoon, I voiced a prayer thanking God for all the amazing missional experiences. God is good and has truly blessed me.
On Thursday, I had an opportunity to reach out to an individual to begin a thought and a prayer about a project in Haiti. During our conversation, I realized this February is the 10 year anniversary of our first trip to Grand Goave, Haiti. In 2011, nine people from Calvary arrived in Grand Goave to build rubble houses after the 2010 earthquake. That was a long, incredible week (It was like prison labor, swinging sledgehammers, pick axes, and carrying 5-gallon buckets full of rubble with the Haitian sun relentlessly beating down on us). In the midst of the hard physical labor, I was clueless of God’s plans for the next 10 years. From 2011-2018, we took 18 trips and 134 individuals from Calvary. We were able to build several homes, take 500 sundresses made by our Women’s Ministry, build a school, lead teacher trainings, and provide medical assistance to thousands of Haitians. We have several partnerships and friendships through God’s guidance to serve in Grand Goave. It has been a remarkable era. I look forward to seeing what God has planned for us in the future.
I want to encourage you to join Calvary on this wonderful, amazing missional journey! This journey is full of joy, fear, challenges, accomplishments, broken hearts, healing, tremendous relationships, and fantastic memories! Do not underestimate the power of God and how He can stretch you and use you to further His Kingdom. The invitation is open! Come and test the water, it’s an incredible journey!
