June 18, 2025

Hello there, Calvary!

We have another opportunity to help our Kentucky neighbors affected by the devastating tornadoes that hit Laurel and Pulaski counties in May.

These photos are of the Finley Trailer Park in London, KY and the immediate surrounding area, which a few of you visited with me last month and helped replace some windows. You’ll also notice one photo with our CBF Field Personnel partner Scarlette Jasper. The other woman in that one is Karenda, who owns the park along with her siblings.

This is a text I received from Karenda over the weekend:

“The park has been there for over 30 years. My dad bought it right around 9 years ago. In August of last year my dad passed away suddenly and after that I took over ownership with my siblings. We had 58 low income families living there before the tornado but now we only have around 25. We lost 7 trailers completely and had over 10 that are off the foundations. We have to replace over 50 windows and repair around 10 roofs.”

Karenda also said that the main thing they need done right now is repairing the underpinning on several trailers and rebuilding some porches. So underpinning, porches, maybe some roof and window repair as well…that’s what we’ll be doing, along with whatever else they need done that we have the ability and time to do.

So if you can join me any or all days from Monday, July 21 to Friday, July 25, let me know. We’ll leave from the church each morning around 7:30 and hopefully return by dinner time each day. I can take up to 11 people with me in the church van, and others can drive and meet us there if available. This is a great opportunity to help some families get back in their homes after such tragic destruction. I hope you’ll join me!

Lastly, I just wanted to note that once again, I’m overwhelmed by Calvary’s generous and faithful giving to support our mission partners and love our neighbors.

Our offering for CBF Global Missions surpassed our goal of $10,000 and as of June 15 came in at just over $12,000.

That is in addition to almost $20,000 this congregation has given to disaster relief efforts following various flooding and tornado devastation in Kentucky this year.

Thank you for your support of our efforts to serve and love both God and our neighbors!
