Music

At Calvary we recognize the important role music plays in the life of our community of faith.

As we build upon the firm foundation of Christ and a rich history of quality church music, we are blessed to have a diverse group of talented musicians who serve faithfully in the music ministry.

It is through song that many Christians, young and old, internalize the basic tenets of our Christian faith. Each worship service is carefully planned so that there is ample time for all to hear the Word of God as well as time to respond to God’s love through litany and song.

Each and every Sunday morning you will hear and experience numerous opportunities to communicate with the Lord through music.

Sometimes our song is praise. Sometimes our song is comfort. Sometimes our song is petition to God. Sometimes our song is proclamation of God’s faithfulness.

Whatever our song may be, as recipients of the grace and mercy of our Lord, how can we keep from singing?

“Sing to the Lord a new song;
Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, praise His name;
proclaim His salvation day after day.
Declare His glory among the nations,
His marvelous deeds among all peoples.”

Psalm 96:1-2

Sanctuary Choir

The Sanctuary Choir is the flagship choral ensemble of our music ministry.

Membership is open to ANYONE (college age and above) who enjoys serving the Lord through music. Whatever our song may be, as recipients of the grace and mercy of our Lord, how can we keep from singing?

As the primary service choir for the 11:00 a.m. worship service, the Sanctuary Choir takes seriously the responsibility of leading worship on a weekly basis. Members of this group strive each week to offer the very best that they have to the Lord through songs, anthems and hymn-arrangements in a wide-variety of musical styles.

We grow together musically, spiritually and socially as we proclaim the message of Christ together through song.

Additionally, the Sanctuary Choir presents musical and seasonal programs with orchestral accompaniment throughout the year including Advent and Holy Week.

Rehearsals

The Sanctuary Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6:15 p.m. until 7:45 p.m.

Handbells

Calvary adult handbell choir (PraiseRingers) is a 4-octave ensemble that meets in the bell room (3rd floor of the Sanctuary Building) on Sunday evenings at 6:00 p.m. Hope Bells meet each Sunday at 5:00 p.m. This beginning-intermediate group is currently ringing 3 octaves.

Please contact Kevin Raybuck if you are interested.

Children’s Choir

Children play a vital role in the life of Calvary Baptist Church.

We do our very best to help children develop and grow in their Christian faith through music and other activities to stimulate creativity through the arts.

The primary music activity for grade school children is the children’s choir program. Each Wednesday night during the school year at 5:45 p.m. our children (3 yrs. through fifth grade) experience music through singing, playing instruments and movement. Staffed by wonderful Christian role models, this is a time for fellowship, music making and learning the fundamentals of music and the Christian faith.

As children are exposed to the joyful spirit of music they begin building a foundation for a life-long love of singing.

During these formative years, our children learn how music and creative arts help us communicate with God. Throughout the year our children lead in worship services and sing for seasonal programs.
